Prize Winning Lambs and Ewes
The 146th Saanich Fall Fair occurred on Labour Day Weekend and we were there labouring. We showed 2 lambs, a yearling and a mature ewe. Getting ready was a major exercise. Each one was showered, shampooed, blown dry, carded and trimmed …. not once but twice. We just got WET! Our learning curve was rather steep never having shown animals before. It reminded us of the days when Keri (our daughter) got her horse ready for shows. Long story short we were elated to receive ribbons: 2 firsts, 1 second, 1 third and a Reserve Champion. Let’s hope it is not just beginners luck as we would like to show our lambs and ewe’s again next year.
It was fun encouraging children and often their parents that it was OK to feel the fleece and pet our sheep.
A big thank you to Lorea, our mentor, for all her patience, help and encouragement and to Keri for helping us prepare our animals and for her photography at the fair.
